School of the Transfiguration Cathedral in Los Angeles has made a breakthrough in language education. Starting this year, the school has launched an experimental program of interactive Russian language learning for first-graders. This is the first experience of this kind in our city, and it opens up new opportunities for young native speakers and those who are just beginning to learn the language.
Interactive methods will be used extensively in our school this year. We will pay special attention to role-playing games, projects, and the use of modern technologies.
The goals of this experiment are to increase interest in learning the language, improve communication skills, and integrate with Russian culture.
We evaluate the effectiveness of the program through tests, observations, and surveys of parents and students.
The main teaching methods include specially developed programs, adapted textbooks, and author’s methodologies.
The advantages of interactive learning are active involvement, development of creative thinking, and memorization of material through practice.
We can expect specific results from using interactive methods in teaching Russian: improved pronunciation, expanded vocabulary, development of reading and writing skills, and increased motivation to learn the language.
Integration with Russian culture is planned to combine learning Russian with immersion in Russian culture, using Russian fairy tales, songs, proverbs, holidays, and introducing Russian writers and poets.
The Orthodox faith plays a role in the learning process, using religious texts, introducing Orthodox holidays, and instilling moral values.
Cooperation with parents:
What happens to parents during the learning process? Parent meetings, joint projects, creating a home environment for language learning. We provide support to parents for whom Russian is not their native language, providing additional materials, consultations, and creating a community for sharing experiences.
Program development prospects:
Future plans include expanding the program to other grades, creating additional courses, and collaborating with other schools.
This program for teaching Russian to children living in other countries takes into account the specifics of the language environment, uses online platforms, and creates an international community.
